Welcome to our new website launched on the 7th April 2015, and welcome to something of a new beginning for the Irwell Rivers Trust.
Since our establishment in 2009, we have focussed on learning, testing, improving and maintaining best practice river restoration in the urban setting of the River Irwell. You could say we’ve been something of a small scale experimental machine, which is exactly what’s in the photo at the top of this post. Or to be more accurate, that’s the SSEM called “The Baby”, the worlds first stored-program computer and built in Manchester in 1948. A fitting local image for our website launch post we think, although we wouldn’t want to try and run our website on it.
Well, we hadn’t heard of ‘The Baby’ until now, and while it’s possible you may have heard of us, our public profile has been very low and you may not be aware of what we do and how we do it. Well, that’s all about to change.
We hope that on our website you enjoy easily finding all the information you need about us, about the River, and about how you can get involved. Please have a good look around and feel welcome to get in touch with any comments, suggestions, queries or if you see any problems with the site. This site is for you, and your views matter. We’ll continue to improve and update the site regularly with new features and news & blog articles (including articles from guest authors), so please do keep coming back to see what’s new or follow us on Twitter ‘@IrwellTrust‘ to catch the very latest as it happens.
To get things going, we actually have a question for you. We’re often asked if we offer ‘Membership’ to the Trust, and currently the answer is “no”, we don’t have a membership system yet. There seems to be quite a lot of interest for this though. If you have any ideas or views on what you think membership should look like with the Trust, please leave your interesting and creative responses in the comments section below. We’re into the idea of having members, so let’s make it the membership style you want it to be.
Thanks for visiting and we hope you enjoy our site.
